As climate change accelerates, its impacts are becoming more immediate and disruptive to our health, food systems, transportation, economy and everyday lives. Nabeela knows that our future generations will bear the brunt of these climate crises and she’s taking action now to build a safer, more sustainable Illinois.

Nabeela believes:

  • Illinois must lead the way in achieving 100% clean, renewable energy while building a resilient, job-creating green economy

  • Clean air and water are not privileges; they are basic human rights that should be accessible to every community, especially those historically overburdened by pollution

  • Climate policy must be intersectional. It must include voices from immigrant communities, labor unions, housing advocates and environmental justice organizations

  • We must modernize transportation systems to be cleaner, more accessible, reliable and built for the future

  • Illinois must act now to prepare for extreme weather events that disproportionately affect vulnerable populations

  • Harmful chemicals like PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals,” have no place in the products we use daily and we must protect people from exposure

Legislative wins:

  • Supported implementation of the Climate & Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) to put Illinois on a path to 100% clean energy by 2050, while also creating good-paying union jobs

  • Co-sponsored legislation that bans PFAS chemicals in everyday products like cosmetics, menstrual products and children’s clothing

  • Co-sponsored legislation that establishes the Climate Displacement Task Force that will ensure Illinois is prepared to support displaced communities from extreme weather events and the impacts of climate change

  • Advocated for clean, affordable water access and meaningful infrastructure investments

  • Championed clean transportation solutions by advocating for electrification, expanded public transit and safer walking and biking infrastructure

Representative Syed’s approach to climate policy is rooted in science, equity and economic opportunity. As she works to build a more sustainable, greener economy, she is also ensuring that Illinois leads the way in resilience and economic justice.
