Dear neighbors,
My name is Nabeela Syed and I’m proud to represent Illinois’ 51st District. I know that suburban families in the 51st House District work hard and deserve a representative that returns that work ethic with results in Springfield.
I am running for re-election to continue the work I’ve been doing in the legislature to further the shared goals of our community: preserving opportunity and public safety, investing in education and job creation, making prescription drugs and health care affordable, and protecting our reproductive health care rights.
Last year, I passed a bill into law that will prohibit the price gouging of generic drugs. This year, I’m taking on Big Pharma and working on a measure that will help further our goal of making prescription drugs more affordable and accessible. I’ve supported legislation to improve Illinois’ fiscal health, voted to pass gun safety legislation, and worked on measures to safeguard our reproductive health care rights. It has been a privilege to work on behalf of our community in Springfield.
I believe in being an authentic and hardworking voice for the 51st District and I believe in an Illinois where people have their needs met, and an opportunity to thrive.

On the Issues
CHOICE
Nabeela will be a champion for women's healthcare and will always unequivocally protect the right to choose in Illinois. As your State Representative, Nabeela will stand up to extreme politicians and fight to keep the government out of decisions that should be made between a woman and her doctor. Learn more.
PUBLIC SAFETY
Nabeela’s generation grew up doing active shooter drills and she will work tirelessly to make sure her children will not have to. She will be a strong advocate for a ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, amongst other common-sense gun safety measures. Learn more.

When it comes to the economy, one thing is clear — working families in our community are in dire need of property tax relief. Having experience consulting with small businesses, Nabeela is committed to making sure our economy works for small businesses and working families. Learn more.
ENVIRONMENT
We can already feel the effects of climate change in all aspects of our lives, including health, food security, transportation, and energy. As part of the generation that will be most impacted by these climate disasters, Nabeela will prioritize legislation that will lead Illinois to 100% clean energy within the next few decades. Healthcare is a human right. While Illinois has made great strides in providing access to healthcare, we need to ensure every member within our community has access to necessary care, whether it is making prescription medication more affordable or providing treatment of a preexisting condition. EDUCATION
Every student deserves the opportunity to receive a high-quality public education, from Pre-K through college. The recent pandemic has only highlighted inequities, from unequal broadband access to poor extracurricular opportunities, that keep many students from reaching their full potential. Learn more.
